He writes popular essays on - on physics, and I have always admired him for that greatly. And uh - He's also an excellent interpreter of physics. You could say, you know, he knows everybody and and so on. He was the director of CERN in Europe for many years and he's sort of one of the leaders in the physics establishment. He has written the standard textbook on nuclear physics. In fact, one interesting case in point is Victor Weisskopf, who is one of the leading nuclear and particle physicists. So now they are beginning to take it more seriously. Traditions, religious traditions that are very different from our Western tradition, that are not based on rational analysis and that are also valid. They're beginning to recognize that there are cultural traditions, philosophical But in the meantime, I think one thing that I have achieved is that I have made the word 'mysticism' more acceptable in scientific circles. And they were sort of polite and they said, well, this is all very interesting. And so they appreciated what I had done there. You say physicists, most of them are confronted with this problem when they teach, and they know from experience that it's very difficult to put these rather complex concepts into ordinary words. Well, to come back to your question, when the book came out, physicists were predictably very cautious and they recognized that the physics was OK, that there are no errors in it as far as physics is concerned.Īnd what is more, they recognized that I had done a good job in explaining the rather complex concepts of modern physics in a language that lay people could understand. And I was thinking about this while the music was playing to reflect of what you have done in your life and how you have interacted with your environment, with the society, with the culture and so on.
